So what the heck IS this thing anyway?
This space-age looking thing is the new Personalized Amplification System™ family of products from Bose®. That's right, it's actually an entirely new way to amplify live music, replacing the usual PA system, monitors, even some instrument amps. What The...? has been chosen by Bose to demonstrate this new product and we're really excited about it! We have three of these flagpole-shaped systems - one for each member of the band, and they are set up behind us on stage. Each of us controls his/her own vocal and instrument from their own individual system.
How will this make a difference for the audience?
Besides the fact that it's a lot smaller than a conventional PA, these speakers radiate the sound in a way that's much more even and more pleasing to the ear. No matter where you stand in the room, you'll be able to hear everything clearly, and without excessive volume, even when you get up close to the speakers! Now you won't have to be afraid to get up close to the band while we're performing - your ears will be safe. You should also find it much easier to hear and understand the lyrics, and distinguish who's singing what. And there won't be a lot of equipment between the audience and the musicians. Finally it can be fun to see a live band again!
What are the benefits for venues?
If your venue doesn't have a house PA system and you hire What The...? (or any other band who uses the new Bose system), expect a welcome change in terms of setup time. You won't have to open up early and wait around for hours while the band sets up the PA and sound checks. And we know you'll love the sound and the effect on audiences!
If you do have a house PA system, we are not obligated to use our Bose Personalized Amplification Systems™ at every gig. We'll be happy to use your PA if you'd rather we did that. However, if you've got a weary sound man who could use a night off, we'll be happy to bring our systems along - we will not need a sound man and the Bose systems will not interfere with an existing PA system - they take up no more space than guitar and bass amps, and are set up in the same place as the backline.
Also, whenever we use our Bose systems, Bose will promote the show on their web site, which is good publicity for your venue!
Last, if you're a business owner, small bar owner, or even a private homeowner who'd love to have live music at your place or event, these systems allow live music to be presented in places where it may not have been practical before. Please contact us if you'd like to book What The...? at your home, work, outdoor event, just about anywhere!
